Green Airports

Airports are facing challenging sustainability targets which need to align with Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Environmental, Social and Governmental aspects (ESG) are also shaping airports operations and design.

Deerns supports airports in this challenging task. We support airports in reducing environmental impact; enhancing health & well-being of employees; increasing business profitability by enhancing a positive passenger experience.

Considering sustainability from a holistic perspective, we work with clients to optimise strategy and design solutions. Specialising in low carbon designs, renewable energy systems, circularity, building installations, airport systems, controls, building physics, health & well-being; we achieve sustainable design solutions tailored for airports.

By combining our technical and strategical knowledge with design robust systems we enable solutions which are resilient to climate change and responsive to change.

Resilience & Climate Adaptation

Designing for adaptation is a critical preventative measure to reduce waste and safeguard natural resources. This could entail design for reducing water consumption through water harvesting and reuse systems. Our material specialists support the design of circular terminal buildings, building installations and airports equipment through flexible or modular solutions, using environmentally low-impact materials. We combine circularity and airport expertise for strategic consultation on water, waste and material stream reuse within an airport.

Resilience & Climate Adaptation

Health & Well-being

Providing a positive passenger experience and contributing actively to a good health and well-being of airport employees enables successful business continuity. We guide airports in designing healthy indoor environments through our in-depth expertise in building physics; lighting; thermal and acoustic comfort as well as indoor air quality and water systems. This technical expertise provides the foundation for testing life cycle health performance. We provide technical advice on how to achieve building certification levels and related health and well-being indicators.

Health & Well-being

Decarbonisation

Supporting airports in a decarbonisation trajectory and the energy transition we draw on our track record of designing low energy buildings, renewable energy systems and optimising building life time energy performance. Our strategic advice is consequently technically feasible. We support building certification processes related to energy optimisation and decarbonisation.

Resilient & Future-Proof Airports

Airports operate in highly dynamic environments. Deerns delivers forward thinking solutions which are consistent and reliable. By assessing local climate risks and future scenarios, we design installations and airport systems which are resilient to climate change, as well as adaptive to future environmental, technical, legislative and economical contexts.
